The Saljol Carbon with drag brakes, in the wide frame — for people the standard seat has never fitted.

What the wide version changes

Same rollator as the Saljol Carbon Fibre with Drag Brakes (€699): same carbon frame, same cork handles, same drag brakes on the rear wheels. The difference is a wider frame and a wider seat, for €100 more.

This matters more than the industry lets on. A rollator seat that is too narrow is not a minor inconvenience — it means the rest you were promised is uncomfortable, so you stop taking it, so you walk further than you should before sitting. We fit the wide version regularly for exactly that reason, and for anyone whose hips sit wider than a 45cm seat.

Choose it if standard rollator seats have never been comfortable, or you have measured and know you need the width.

Choose the standard version if the ordinary seat suits you — a wider frame is a wider frame, and it has to get through your doorways.

Why we recommend this model

The drag brakes are the reason this rollator exists. Instead of squeezing a lever to slow down, the rear wheels carry a constant, adjustable rolling resistance that you switch on and off with your foot. For someone with Parkinson's whose steps speed up involuntarily, or for anyone facing a hill on the way home, it means the rollator cannot run away ahead of you.

The cork-TPE handles are the other reason: warm in an Irish winter, non-slip in rain, and they absorb the shock that would otherwise travel into painful wrists.

Fitted for

  • Parkinson's disease — festination, where drag brakes are the answer
  • Multiple sclerosis — fatigue, with a seat worth sitting on
  • Stroke recovery — reduced grip, with an optional one-hand brake conversion
  • Broader users — where a standard 45cm seat is too narrow
  • Hilly ground — controlled descent rather than a rollator pulling ahead

Common questions

How much wider is it?

The frame and seat are both wider than the standard model's 61cm open width and 45cm seat. Exact figures vary by size, so we measure against your doorways and your hips at the fitting rather than quoting a single number here.

Will it still fit through my doors?

A standard Irish internal door is about 72cm, so usually yes — but older houses and bathroom doors can be tighter. Measure your narrowest door before ordering, or let us check at a home assessment.

What are drag brakes?

Continuous rolling resistance on the rear wheels, adjustable and switched with your foot, so the rollator holds a steady pace instead of accelerating away on a slope. They work alongside the normal hand brakes rather than replacing them.

Can it be converted to a one-hand brake?

Yes, both brakes can be operated together from a single lever — useful after a stroke or with one-sided weakness. Talk to us about fitting it.
