A rollator and a wheelchair in one frame, for people who can walk — just not as far as the day asks.

Why we recommend it

Most people who end up with a Rollz Motion did not come looking for a wheelchair. They came in because outings had started to shrink: the shopping centre is fine, the garden centre is not; the church is fine, the walk back is not. What stops the day is rarely the walking itself — it's the not knowing whether there'll be somewhere to sit.

The Motion answers that without a second piece of equipment in the boot. You walk behind it as a rollator, and when you've had enough, the seat turns round, the footrests clip on and someone pushes you home. No tools, and it takes seconds.

What we notice at fittings is that the wheelchair half gets used less than people expect once they own it. Knowing the option is there is what keeps someone out for the afternoon, and that reassurance does more for how far they walk than any brake setting.

The honest trade-off is weight. The rollator is 11.6kg and the wheelchair package another 3.4kg, so this is not a frame you swing into a boot one-handed — that is the price of a chair sturdy enough to be pushed over kerbs. It has curb climbers behind both rear wheels for exactly that: foot on the climber, pull the handles back, and the front wheels lift over the step.

Choose it if your walking is steady but your stamina isn't, someone is usually with you who could push for the last stretch, and you'd rather have one piece of kit than a rollator at home and a transit chair in the car.

Choose something else if you're usually out on your own — being pushed needs a second person, and the Carbon Ultralight at 4.8kg is far easier to lift alone. If freezing of gait is your main difficulty, the Rollz Motion Rhythm adds laser and rhythm cueing to the same frame. And if you need to be seated most of the time rather than occasionally, this is the wrong category — talk to us about a proper wheelchair instead.

Fitted for

  • Multiple sclerosis — fatigue that arrives without warning, and varies day to day
  • Parkinson's disease — where distance and stamina are the issue rather than freezing
  • Stroke recovery — building walking distance back up with a safety net
  • Cardiac and respiratory conditions — where breathlessness, not balance, sets the limit
  • After surgery — hip and knee replacements, while stamina returns

What's included

The rollator, the wheelchair package, the 3-in-1 holder, two adjustable footrests and the locking hook. It arrives assembled — we set the handle height, adjust the brakes and run through the conversion with you and with whoever will be doing the pushing.

Commonly added at the fitting: the seat belt (€39) for anyone who slides forward when being pushed, the travel cover (€145) for flights and coach travel, and the tray (€89). The cover and seat belt bundle is €1,159 together.

About the Rollz Motion 2.1

Rollz is a Dutch manufacturer, and the Motion is the product the company is built around: one frame that does the job of two. It has won the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award. The design is deliberately sturdy rather than feather-light — it holds its line over kerbs and uneven footpaths without shaking, and folds to 31cm wide for a car boot or a bus.

The handles are inverted, so you walk inside the frame rather than pushing it ahead of you, which keeps you upright in both rollator and wheelchair positions. The brakes are rated for wet and dry conditions, and the lumbar support strap and footrests adjust to the user.

The 2.1 is the current generation. The same frame takes the Rhythm cueing module and the electric conversion kit, so it can be upgraded later rather than replaced.

Common questions

How long does it take to change from rollator to wheelchair?

Seconds, with no tools. You put the seat up, turn the handles into the pushing position and set them to a comfortable height for whoever is pushing, then clip on the footrests. We show you and them how at the fitting, and it's worth doing it twice before we leave.

Can I push myself in wheelchair mode?

No — the Motion is an attendant-pushed transport chair. The rear wheels have no hand rims, so someone else does the pushing. If you need to self-propel, this is not the right product and we'll tell you so.

Will it fit in my car?

It folds to 31cm wide, which suits most boots. Weight is the thing to test rather than size: at 11.6kg plus the 3.4kg wheelchair package, lifting it is the part people underestimate. Bring your car to the showroom, or we'll try it with your own boot when we visit.

What size should I choose?

Regular suits users between 1.60m and 1.90m; Small suits 1.50m to 1.85m, with a frame 5cm shorter and the seat 5cm lower. There's overlap between them, so if you're in it, book an assessment and we'll measure with you. Getting the size wrong is the single most common reason a rollator ends up unused.

Can it be upgraded later?

Yes. The Rhythm cueing module for Parkinson's fits the same frame, as does the electric conversion kit. People who expect their needs to change often start here for that reason.

Do I have to take the wheelchair part everywhere?

No. The wheelchair package lifts off and can stay at home on days you know you won't need it, or ride on the frame in the 3-in-1 holder when you might.
