Cueing for the feet that freeze, and a wheelchair for the day that outlasts them.

Why we recommend it

Freezing of gait is the symptom people find hardest to explain. The feet stop at a doorway, at a turn in the kitchen, at the kerb outside the church, and no amount of willing moves them. What does move them is something external to step to — a line on the floor, a beat, a pulse in the hand. That is what the Rhythm builds into the frame: a green laser line projected in front of you, a metronome, and vibration in the handles.

We fit this most often for people whose Parkinson's has reached the stage where confidence, not strength, is the limit. The cues get someone through the doorway; the wheelchair package means the walk back from the far end of the shopping centre is no longer the thing that decides whether the trip happens at all.

Cues can be run singly or together and varied over time — that variation matters, because the brain stops responding to a cue it has learned to ignore. Your physiotherapist can set the pattern; you can fine-tune it in the app.

Choose it if freezing or festination is the main problem, and there are days when being pushed for the last stretch would keep you out of the house longer.

Choose something else if you never need to be pushed — the Rhythm rollator at €1,495 is the same cueing without the wheelchair package. If freezing isn't your difficulty and distance is, the Rollz Motion 2.1 at €989 does the rollator-to-wheelchair job without the cueing module.

The Rhythm rollator with its cueing module and seat bag, plus the wheelchair package with footrests — the seat turns round and someone pushes you. It arrives assembled: we set the handle height, configure the cues and run through the conversion with you and with whoever will be pushing.

About the Rollz Motion Rhythm

Rollz is a Dutch manufacturer and the Rhythm is its Parkinson's-specific model — the Motion frame with cueing built in rather than clipped on. The frame is the same award-winning Motion: inverted handles that keep you upright, brakes rated for wet and dry conditions, curb climbers behind the rear wheels, and a fold to 31cm for a car boot.

The same frame also takes the electric conversion kit if pushing becomes difficult for the person doing it.

Buying from Bee Healthcare

  • Try it before you buy. A 45-minute assessment at our Sandyford showroom, or at home if you'd rather — book an appointment. Cueing is the one thing nobody can judge from a page.
  • Delivered set up, not boxed. Height, brakes, conversion and cue settings all configured with you.
  • HSE-approved supplier. We issue quotes in the format a funding application needs.

Common questions

How does the laser line help with freezing?

It projects a green stripe on the floor ahead of you to step over. A visual target recruits a different pathway in the brain from the one that initiates walking automatically, which is why an external cue can break a freeze that willpower cannot. Many of our customers describe it as the single most useful feature.

Can I change the cues myself?

Yes — on the handlebars or in the free Rollz app (iOS and Android). Speed, intensity and duration are all adjustable, and varying them prevents the brain habituating to a cue.

What happens if the battery runs flat?

The rollator works exactly as normal, you simply lose the cues until it is charged. Battery life is typically several days of ordinary use.

Can I push myself in wheelchair mode?

No. The Motion frame is an attendant-pushed transport chair — there are no hand rims. If you need to self-propel, this is the wrong product and we will say so.

Can the cueing be added to a Rollz Motion I already own?

Yes. The Rhythm module and handles fit an existing Rollz Motion 2.1 frame. Talk to us about fitting it.

Does my physiotherapist need to be involved?

Not required, but we recommend it. A physio or OT who knows your gait can set the cue pattern far better than a first guess, and we are happy to do the fitting alongside them.
