For people who cannot put weight through their hands — the support moves up to the forearms.
Why we recommend it
Every rollator asks the same thing of you: take some of your weight through your hands and wrists. For a lot of people that is precisely what has stopped working. Rheumatoid arthritis, a wrist fracture that never regained its strength, severe carpal tunnel, a stroke that took the grip on one side, advanced Parkinson's where the hands will not hold — in all of those, a conventional rollator is either painful or unsafe.
A gutter arm walker moves the support up the limb. You rest your forearms in padded troughs and push from the elbows, which spreads the load across the arms and off the hands entirely. People who have been folding forwards over a rollator for months often straighten up the first time they use one.
The Troja Walker² also brakes with a single lever that operates both wheels. If one hand is weaker than the other — the usual reason someone ends up here — that matters more than any other feature on the frame.
Choose it if hand or wrist pain, or one-sided weakness, is what is limiting your walking indoors, and a physiotherapist or OT has raised forearm support.
Choose something else if your grip is sound. This is a specialist indoor frame at 8.3–8.9kg, and for anyone who can hold handles comfortably a rollator is lighter, more portable and less conspicuous — start with the Carbon Ultralight or the Saljol Indoor Rollator WR instead.

About TOPRO
TOPRO manufacture in Gjøvik, Norway, and have built walking frames for the Scandinavian health services for decades. The Troja Walker² sits on the same platform as their Troja rollator range, so the folding, the brakes and the build are the ones their rollators are known for, with forearm supports in place of handles. Seven-year frame warranty tells you what they expect of it.
Buying from Bee Healthcare
- Try it before you buy. A 45-minute assessment at our Sandyford showroom, or at home if you'd rather — book an appointment. Forearm walkers feel strange for the first minute and obvious by the fifth.
- Delivered set up, not boxed. Trough height, spacing and brakes adjusted to you.
- HSE-approved supplier. We issue quotes in the format a funding application needs — gutter frames are frequently prescribed, so involve your OT early.
Common questions
What is a gutter arm walker?
A walking frame where your forearms rest in padded troughs, or gutters, instead of your hands gripping handles. Your weight goes through the forearms and elbows, which keeps you upright and takes the load off painful or weak hands and wrists.
Can I use it outdoors?
It is designed for indoor use. The wheels and the height suit level floors, thresholds and carpet rather than footpaths and kerbs. If you need outdoor walking too, most people keep a rollator for outside and the walker for indoors.
Which size do I need?
XS suits 125–160cm, S suits 130–170cm and M suits 150–185cm, but there is deliberate overlap and the right answer depends on your elbow height, not just your height. Note the maximum user weight also changes by size — 80kg on the XS. We measure at the fitting.
How do the brakes work with one weak hand?
One lever brakes both wheels, so it can be operated entirely from your stronger side. This is the main reason OTs specify this model after a stroke.
Does it fold?
Yes, it folds laterally and stands up on its own when folded, so it can be put beside a wardrobe rather than laid on the floor.
